[edit] Los Angeles Fedora 9 Release Party
An operating system, a set of projects, and a mindset.
What is Fedora?
The operating system is Fedora. It comes out twice a year. It's completely free, and we're committed to keeping it that way. It's the best combination of robust and latest software that exists in the free software world.
The mindset is doing the right thing. To us, that means providing free and open software and content, at no cost, freely usable, modifiable, redistributable, and unencumbered by software patents.

[edit] Student research symposium
Date: December 3, 2007
From: Benjamin Figueroa, Director, Research Administration
Jose Galvan, Dean, Graduate Studies and Research
Paula Arvedson, President, Phi Kappa Phi
Re: 16th Annual Cal State L.A. Symposium on Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (February 29, 2008)The 16th Annual Cal State L.A. Symposium on Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity, sponsored jointly by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, Office of Graduate Studies and Research and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, has been scheduled for Friday, February 29, 2007.
… This event is held annually to provide a local forum for our students to gain experience in delivering a professional presentation. Ten local winners will be selected to represent Cal State L.A. in the statewide student research competition to be held in May 2008.
The Symposium is open to all majors and to both undergraduate and graduate students. The event is especially appropriate for students who are preparing a master’s project, thesis, or senior project. It is also appropriate for any student who has engaged in other forms of scholarly research or creative activity, including term projects and independent study endeavors.
Students can participate in the University Symposium in two ways – by delivering a 10-minute oral presentation or by exhibiting a poster presentation. The subsequent statewide competition is limited to oral presentations. Please note that poster presentations can be interpreted in ways appropriate for documenting the discipline, such as video, recordings, slides, and CDs, as well as posters. Previous winners have come from a cross-section of departments representing all six colleges, and their topics have ranged from projects in art, literary criticism, and history to descriptions of scientific research, musical compositions, and curricular innovations.
Students can enter by submitting a 200-word abstract of their work, along with a registration form, by Friday, January 25, 2008, 5:00 p.m. The application form and guidelines will be available on the ORSP website, http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/orsp, after December 15, 2007.
